Contrasting, opposing forces, like fire and ice, have a kind of violent harmony. Dancing, blending together to create a beautiful dance.

A deep, rich red, and light and dark blues are two of my favourite colours, and I wanted a way to use the resin to make them blend together but also stand out.

While this piece didn't incorporate light into it, I did want to use reflective and light catching mica powder and gold leaf and the textured sand to let the daylight play on the canvas.

The Process

I started the process of this piece without any real direction. This piece was to be a change from the sculpture pieces I had been doing previously, still using texture and resin, but more flush with the canvas and more fluid.

The inspiration for this piece was to create something contrasting, flowing, and dancing, but also lighter and transportable. I used epoxy resin, mica powder, spray paint, texture paste, and sand and gold leaf to add the dimensions and swirls to the piece.
