I've always loved Greek mythology, and inspired by characters like Sisyphus, Atlas, and Medusa. My first foray into creating an immersive and larger than life canvas-based sculpture was to have Atlas holding up the world.
The first version of this piece was more simple, with the circular piece precariously attached to the back of the canvas. I was very pleased with this version, especially the light strip at the horizon of the mountain and the detailing on the muscles and facial features.
The first version of this piece unfortunately fell, the weight of the world was just too much for Atlas at that time. It did however give me an opportunity to recreate the piece and use a previous space-themed piece behind the circular world canvas to have more stability and background.
